How the Dane County TimeBank is Governed
The Dane County TimeBank is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization is governed by a Board of
Directors with between nine and 20 members. The
TimeBank is the umbrella under which neighborhood- and program-based
TimeBanks operate.
A neighborhood or organization TimeBank may elect its own "Kitchen Cabinet." A Kitchen Cabinet is a neighborhood steering team made up of active TimeBank members and organizations within a given geographic area or interest area. Trained member coordinators conduct new member intake in their neighborhoods. Kitchen Cabinets help recruit members who have skills that are underrepresented, and keep in touch with members to help ensure that all members are able to get their needs met. They make the day-to-day decisions that meet local needs and operate under the broader policy structure provided by the Dane County TimeBanks Board. Kitchen Cabinets also host regular events where members can meet and get to know each other. They may organize special projects in their neighborhoods, such as the Allied Allies' work on Maxine's TimeBank Store.
The Northside Neighbor-to-Neighbor TimeBank was the first in Dane County and the first to elect a Kitchen Cabinet. Other Kitchen Cabinets in Central, West, East Madison, Stoughton-Oregon and the Allied Allies neighborhood make decisions and maintain two-way communication in their areas.
